CAPTAIN JONATHAN CRAWFORD (c. 1747 – 1827), son of Thomas Crawford and Jane Johnston

MARY HEATH

Captain Jonathan Heath was born about 1747. He died on 8 December 1827, age 79, in Bridgewater, Grafton County, New Hampshire and was buried in the Kenfield Cemetery. [1] He married Mary Heath after 31 January 1767 (int.) in Hampstead. [2]

The identity of Mary Heath is unknown. She is unlikely to be the daughter of Bartholomew Heath and Hannah Kelly, born 3 January 1753 as that would make her quite young to be married in 1767. She is unlikely to be the daughter of Nathaniel Heath and Sarah Stevens, born on 15 April 1733, as that would make her improbably old to marry Jonathan in 1767 and have a child in 1783. Mary (Molly) Heath, born 19 October 1746, the daughter of Bartholomew Heath and Mary Pike, is the right age, but she died young.

Jonathan's grave has a Revolutionary War memorial. [1] He served five enlistments. [2] He was a captain in the militia. [2]

Captain Thornton raised a company of 23 men. Among them from New Chester were Thomas Crawford, age 26, and Jonathan Crawford, age 28, both farmers from New Chester who enlisted on 11 July 1775. James Osgood became the captain and Thomas Crawford was a sergeant; they were known as Osgood's Company of Rangers and they were discharged at the end of September. [3]
